Scholars at Risk Speaker Series

Scholars at Risk is an international organization that helps professors, scientists, and researchers whose lives are in danger for political reasons.

Scholars at Risk has helped individuals escape Ukraine, Syria, Iraq, Zimbabwe, and a host of other conflict areas. The organization partners with universities to provide temporary refuge, allowing scholars to continue their teaching and research in a safe environment while they establish permanent homes.

The International Studies major and Women’s Center at Kent State are working to establish Kent State as one of those refuge locations for recently rescued individuals.

During the 2024-2025 academic year, Kent State University welcomed two Scholars at Risk alumni to campus and regional events. These individuals reached safety after receiving support through the Scholars at Risk network and shared their experiences with the Kent State community.

These events were free and open to the public.

Support The Scholars at Risk Program

Around the globe, scientists and researchers are targeted by authoritarian governments, harassed and attacked by armed groups and endangered by conflict. Many are targeted because of the work they do. Help us support these scholars in their time of need by giving to the Scholar at Risk Program today.
