Applying for Financial Aid

Filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) unlocks multiple types of aid and can be completed in a few easy steps. Please review the following information for steps that explain how to complete the FAFSA. Kent State Geauga and Twinsburg Academic Center Emergency Relief Funds Application

At Kent State Geauga, your well-being matters to us. We understand that unexpected emergencies can arise and potentially impact your ability to stay on track with your education. Thanks to the generous support of our faculty, staff, and community friends, we may be able to offer financial assistance to help you through difficult times.

The purpose of this fund is to provide assistance to students who are in crisis or demonstrate emergency financial need. Funding recipients shall be selected on the basis of: 

  • Currently enrolled at Kent State University Geauga as an undergraduate student in any degree program.
  • Demonstrated emergency financial need, either through the FAFSA or through a written statement. 
  • The need must be for expenses that will help the student maintain enrollment. Emergency funding decisions will be made by the Geauga Emergency Application Review Committee.

Please complete this application to be considered for emergency assistance. Your submission will be reviewed by the Geauga Emergency Application Review Committee. Decisions are typically made within approximately one week. A member of our staff may contact you during this process, so be sure to provide the best phone number and email(s) where you can be reached.

Steps to Complete the Financial Aid Process:

Step 1: Create an FSA ID

The FSA ID allows you to electronically sign your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), along with your Master Promissory Note. Dependent students must have at least one parent create an FSA ID and password as well to electronically sign the FAFSA or complete a PLUS Loan Request.

Step 2: Complete the FAFSA

Submit the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Financial Aid) online. By completing the FAFSA, you will be considered for federal grants, loans, work-study programs, and, in some cases, scholarships.

  • Complete FAFSA Online
  • Federal Student Aid provides help in completing the FAFSA.
  • Review the financial information required to complete the FAFSA.
  • The IRS Data Retrieval Tool is available. This will pull your income information straight from your tax return and input it into the FAFSA. To check your eligibility for the IRS Data Retrieval tool, visit the FAFSA website. If you are ineligible, you will need your federal tax returns and W-2 forms to complete the FAFSA.
  • The Geauga Campus and Twinsburg Academic Center Title IV School Code is 003059. The Kent Campus Title IV School Code is 003051.
Step 3: Complete the Master Promissory Note and Entrance Counseling
Step 4: Submit Enrollment Plans

In addition to applying for federal student aid using the FAFSA, students need to submit their Kent State enrollment plans in FlashLine.

Students who submitted enrollment plans in FlashLine will be awarded according to the responses submitted. Check FlashLine for updated information about your financial aid awards. If you submitted your enrollment plans but were not awarded financial aid, your financial aid may not be awarded until you have resolved any issues that prevented financial aid awarding. Some issues include but are not limited to:

  • Outstanding financial aid requirements (for verification)
  • Unsatisfactory academic progress status

Check FlashLine for active messages or unsatisfied student requirements. 

Enrollment Verification will be made available in spring every year.

Making Enrollment Plan Changes

Students who need to make changes to enrollment plans should return to FlashLine. In the "Resources/Additional Information" tab, you will be able to resubmit your answers.

Students who did not submit enrollment plans online and complete a FAFSA will not be awarded financial aid. 

Step 5: Review the Terms & Conditions

Review the Terms & Conditions of Receiving Financial Aid and review Unsatisfied Requirements, Active Messages and/or Academic Progress.

  • Log into FlashLine and select Student from the main menu.
  • Under Finances, click on Financial Aid.
  • Click on Financial Aid Awards, select the current aid year from the drop-down and Submit.
  • Select the Terms & Conditions tab and read and acknowledge important information.
  • Select Overall Financial Aid Status at the bottom of the page to review Unsatisfied Requirements, Active Messages and/or Academic Progress.
