School of Fashion Study Away Florence Mark

The KSU Florence program is based in Palazzo Vettori, a prestigious and ancient building located in the heart of Florence at the corner of Via Cavour and Via Alfani, next to Piazza del Duomo.

Through the program, students complete major courses and electives, while exploring Italian fashion and culture. Within Palazzo Vettori, students will find their classroom spaces, studios, a library, computer labs, staff and faculty offices and common areas including a beautiful outdoor courtyard. Courses are taught by Florence-based faculty who are multilingual and experienced in supporting students in their experience abroad. Students participate in trips to trade shows and Italian fashion and textiles industry sites.

Housing

The Office of Global Education arranges housing for students in Florence. Each apartment is unique, with variations in size, layout, and the number of roommates. The largest apartments can accommodate up to 8 students, while most typically house 3-7 roommates, with bedrooms usually shared by two students.

Availability of apartments can change each semester, so there is no guarantee of securing larger apartments. You may request any number of roommates, but it might not be possible to house everyone together. If you request only a few roommates, you may be placed with additional students based on availability and capacity.

When submitting roommate preferences, please rank them in order of preference. You may also specify individuals with whom you prefer not to live.

Co-ed housing is available if all requested roommates agree to it. Private apartments without roommates are available for an additional cost and are subject to availability.

For students needing accommodations through Student Accessibility Services, these can be arranged in Florence.

Travel

Group travel and independent travel available.

Students can join a group flight, as long as they apply by the Office of Global Education application deadline. Those traveling on the group flight will most likely be flying with Delta, while independent travelers have the freedom to select their preferred airline. Families wishing to join a student from the group flight can reach out to our travel agent, Ted Roy, for assistance in obtaining flight information or can collaborate directly with Ted on their ticket arrangements if they prefer.

Alternatively, students can choose to fly independently. Students should not plan or purchase any airfare until they have been formally instructed to do so by the Office of Global Education.

“Studying in Florence was amazing. I’ll never forget everything I learned about the culture and the people I met along the way. I was also able to learn how to design accessories such as shoes and purses during an internship. If I could do it again, I’d fly out there in a heartbeat!”
