Information Systems and Business Analytics

 

WELCOME

We are a multi-disciplinary department comprising the areas of Information Systems and Business Analytics. Programs in our department include undergraduate degrees in Computer Information Systems (CIS) and Business Analytics, Graduate Degrees and a Certificate in Business Analytics and a Ph.D. concentration in Information Systems. We also offer a minor in CIS.

Our curriculum provides you with a solid theoretical foundation in your chosen major or minor, as well as exposure to practical applications in your area of study. As such, internship experience is strongly encouraged.

FACULTY RESEARCH

Research Areas

Faculty in the Information Systems and Business Analytics (ISBA) department conduct interdisciplinary research examining how digital technologies, artificial intelligence, and analytics transform organizations and society. Their work addresses topics such as digital transformation, AI-enabled decision systems, cybersecurity behavior, technology adoption, and supply chain analytics. Several faculty members lead research initiatives in these areas. For example: 

  • Dr. Pratim Datta studies cybersecurity, business analytics, and data-driven decision systems, focusing on how organizations leverage analytics to strengthen digital security and operational performance. 
  • Dr. Justice Akpan investigates digital innovation, entrepreneurship, and technology adoption in organizations and emerging markets. 
  • Dr. Jose Benitez examines how firms leverage digital technologies and IT capabilities to drive digital transformation, innovation, and organizational performance. 
  • Dr. Rouzbeh Razavi focuses on artificial intelligence and machine learning applications for intelligent decision systems and predictive analytics.

Together, these research programs reflect the department’s commitment to advancing knowledge at the intersection of technology, analytics, and business strategy.

Research Awards and Scholarly Recognition

ISBA faculty publish in leading journals across information systems, analytics, and related business disciplines. Recent work appears in premier outlets such as MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, Journal of Management Information Systems, Journal of the Association for Information Systems, European Journal of Information Systems, Information Systems Journal, Information & Management, and Decision Support Systems, as well as journals in related areas including Journal of Operations Management, Production and Operations Management, and Journal of International Business Studies.

Faculty have also received professional recognition through research awards, editorial leadership roles, and inclusion in the Stanford–Elsevier Top 2% Scientists Worldwide list.
