Biography

Linda Piccirillo-Smith is a FTNTT Senior Lecturer in the Department of Africana Studies. She is also the Communication Skills & Arts Coordinator serving as the liaison between Africana Studies and the English Department's College Writing Program where she serves as an ex-officio member.   
 
Before becoming  a full-time instructor in Africana Studies, Professor Piccirillo-Smith taught composition courses linked with Africana Studies.  She currently teaches the Black Experience survey courses, Introduction to Caribbean Studies, Afro Latinx Communities in the U.S., Black Lives Matter, Black Hollywood, Oral and Written Discourses and various Africana Studies linked literature courses.
 
Professor Piccirillo-Smith has a research interest in Caribbean Studies; in particular, she focuses on the history of the lives of women of African descent pre and post-emancipation in the U.S. Virgin Islands (the former Danish West Indies).  She has received two travel research grants to St. Thomas and St. Croix and took a student group to the Caribbean in 2014.
 
In addition to her work in the department, Professor Piccirillo-Smith has been a member of Faculty Senate, has served on NPAB (Non-Tenure Track Promotion Advisory Board) and on NPAC (Non-Tenure Track Provost's Advisory Committee). She has also served as secretary  and council member for the FTNTT unit of AAUP-KSU. She is an ally for Spectrum and the FTNTT rep for Committee R
