Biography

Dr. Huyck is an assistant professor in the Speech Pathology and Audiology program in the School of Health Sciences, College of Education, Health, and Human Services. She teaches in the Northeast Ohio Au.D. Consortium, and is a member of the Hearing Research Group in the Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology at NEOMED. She is the director of the Perception, Learning, and Individual Differences (PLAID) lab, where she investigates why some adolescents and young adults are better at hearing and listening than others.  She has repeatedly shown that adolescents do not always process speech and other sounds as well as adults, and she is interested in what underlying mechanisms contribute to this immaturity.
