
Ricky Owens
Biography
Born and raised in the area, Ricky attended Copley High School. Following graduation, he enrolled at Urbana University, where he played football for two years. After the passing of his mentor, Stewart Tolle, Ricky transferred to Shippensburg University and joined the boxing team, advancing to the Collegiate Boxing Regional Finals in Annapolis. After college, Ricky moved to New York City, where he worked in the music and fashion industries for 10 years. While living in New York City, Ricky worked as a fashion model and as a subcontractor for Warner Music. His passion for mentorship was inspired by his time in Harlem, where he collaborated with many talented artists.
Ricky currently serves as a HUB Ambassador for the Kent State Prison Reentry Program. Early in his life, Ricky experienced firsthand the hardships of being a justice-impacted individual. After being incarcerated, Ricky has been nothing short of determined and dedicated to showing that everyone deserves a second chance. In the role of HUB Ambassador, Ricky mentors individuals who are currently incarcerated and nearing release. Through Kent’s PRP program, Ricky visits facilities and works directly with participants, providing hands-on education and guidance to help them develop the skills needed for a successful re-entry into society.
