University Housing Expands Sustainability Efforts with Ohio EPA Grant

University Housing is proud to announce a major step forward in its commitment to sustainability. In 2025, Tom Dietrich, Assistant Director of Residential Facilities, secured a $10,000 grant from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency to support the installation of additional bottle filling stations across residence halls.

Each station can save up to 15,000 plastic bottles annually—equivalent to more than 300 pounds of waste diverted from landfills—while also promoting student health and wellness. Responding to frequent requests from students for more filling stations, University Housing was thrilled to receive this grant, which, combined with additional housing funds, allowed for numerous new installations over the summer.

“This project reflects both our dedication to sustainability and our responsiveness to student needs,” said Dietrich. “We are excited to continue expanding these efforts to make our residence halls healthier and more environmentally responsible places to live.”
