    Biography

Hello! My name is Jacqueline Germano and I am a first-year graduate student in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. While completing my undergraduate degree at Kent State, I was so fortunate to study abroad TWICE in Florence, Italy. My first experience at the Florence Summer Institute in 2015 was eye opening and greatly fulfilling. For four weeks, I had the opportunity to learn about my own culture first-hand and completely grow as an individual. At the time, I was a regional campus student from Kent Trumbull and I had never pictured living my life outside of my comfort zone. Studying abroad opened so many doors for me and allowed me to see myself in a new light.

I could not get enough of Florence, so I studied abroad a second time the following summer. For four weeks in 2016, I had the privilege to work as a psychology intern with a well-known American-Italian psychologist. Together, Dr. Mary Ann Bellini and I researched and collected data for a study on culture shock. This experience taught me so much about how college students adjust to new surroundings much different from their own.

Receiving an education in a different country is a rewarding adventure that also encouraged me to develop as a more adaptable, independent, and mature adult. I am excited to promote the same opportunity to other students! Neale Donald Walsch once said, "Life begins at the end of your comfort zone." I would love to help you get there!
