    Biography

I teach multiple biology courses in the Department of Biological Sciences, including but not limited to Microbiology, Biological Foundations, Biological Diversity, Human Genetics, Human Biology, Life On Planet Earth, and Biological Structure and Function. I enjoy teaching and love interacting with my students both inside the classroom and outside. My research interests revolve around antimicrobial drug discovery, antimicrobial resistance, and molecular mechanisms of bacterial pathogenesis using Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium ulcerans as models. Through my research, I aim to develop new tools for diagnostics and treatments of bacterial diseases. In addition, I am interested in microbial ecology and surface water quality.

I’m currently accepting undergraduate and graduate (MS and PhD) students in my lab.

Besides teaching and research, I’m a handyman who loves working around my house with my family. I like road trips, hiking, biking, fishing, and photography.
