Video: Center for the Visual Arts Opens with Grand Celebration

The School of Art's newly completed Center for the Visual Arts celebrated its grand opening on May 6. A large crowd filled the building lobby for the opening ceremony, which was followed by tours, live music, student exhibitions and a keynote lecture by visiting artist Mel Chin. Watch the video, which excerpts opening remarks by Beverly Warren (Kent State president), John Crawford-Spinelli (College of the Arts dean), Christine Havice (School of Art director) and Dennis Eckart (Board of Trustees chair):

Each year, Kent State University invites an exciting array of visiting artists to speak at the School of Art. In 2025, Kent Blossom Art Intensives welcomes eight visiting artists to participate in course workshops and give free lectures to the community.

This Spring, Linda Hoeptner Poling, Ph.D., associate professor of art education at Kent State University, earned the Heather E. Adams Impact Award for her efforts in ensuring the wellbeing of women across campus. 

She was given this award shortly after being promoted to full professor in March. 

The New Foundation for Art History (NFAH) has selected Shana Klein, Ph.D., for a 2025 research fellowship.

Founded in 2019, the New Foundation for Art History (NFAH) strives to serve the field in innovative ways that have been overlooked or underserved by existing institutions of its kind.
